1. The Different Types of Relocation

There are four different types of relocation: Across town, out of state, across the country, and international. Each has its own set of considerations to make when planning your move.

Across Town:This is probably the simplest type of relocation. You're not dealing with changing schools or jobs, you don't have to cancel any leases, and you can probably do most of the packing yourself. The main thing to consider is whether or not your new place is big enough to hold all your stuff - if not, you'll need to either get rid of some things or find storage.

Out of State:Moving out of state can be a bit more complicated than moving across town. In addition to finding a new place to live and transferring your utilities, you'll also need to change your driver's license and registration, as well as your vehicle registration if you're bringing a car with you. You may also need to find a new doctor and dentist, and update your insurance policies. If you have kids, they'll need to change schools - which means transferring their records and getting them settled into a new school district. And finally, don't forget to update your address with the post office!
